The story is set in Los Angeles Garfield High School, which is mainly populated by children of South American immigrants. Escalante, who used to work for a computer company, came to teach at the school to realize his ambitions. However, due to the school's financial constraints and lack of computers, he had to switch to teaching mathematics. He used a strong teaching method to tame the naughty students headed by Philip and helped them pass the skip-level exam with high scores. Unexpectedly, they were suspected of collective cheating. In order to clarify the misunderstanding, the students decided to retake the exam. The teachers and students cooperated closely and finally set a record for the number of qualified students, and also won funds for the school to purchase computers.
