The mother of a pair of girls, Victoria Dizon (Megan Charpentier) and Lily Dizon (Isabelle Nélisse), was killed by their father, who then committed suicide and abandoned the two daughters in the woods. Five years later, they were found in a very bad condition, lonely and hungry. They were afraid and resisted all physical contact. No one knew how they survived in such a lonely environment. Uncle Lucas (Nikolaj Coster-Waldau) and his girlfriend Annabelle (Jessica Chastain) adopted them, and their originally peaceful life was broken. In the darkness, there is always a ghost that follows them like a shadow, and the two girls call her: Mom, the ghost who wants to kill them. This film is the feature film debut of Spanish director Anders Muschietti, a remake of his short film of the same name shot in 2008.
