Rapper Machine Gun Kelly joins the Motley Crue biopic "The Dirt" as one of the band's founders, Tommy Lee, while Douglas Booth will play another founder, Nikki Sixx. Directed by Jeff Tremaine, director of "Jackass", the film was written by Rich Wilkes (xXx), Tom Kapinos (Lucifer) and Amanda Adelson, and produced and distributed by Netflix. The film is based on the autobiography "The Dirt: Confessions of the World's Most Notorious Rock Band" and focuses on the rise of the heavy metal band in the 1980s. Motley Crue was founded in Los Angeles in January 1981. The members include bassist Nikki Sixx, drummer Tommy Lee, lead singer Vince Neil and guitarist Mick Mars. In November of the same year, the first album "Too Fast for Love" was released. It was in short supply and sold out again after reprinting, and received wide acclaim. The band held its final concert on December 31, 2015, and its albums have sold over 100 million copies worldwide, including 25 million in the United States.
