Joe (Joaquin Phoenix) has a very tragic past. His father is a violent maniac who always beats Joe and his mother (Judith Roberts) for no reason. Today, Joe and his mother live a life of dependence on each other. After retiring from the army, he became an FBI agent and then started to work as a killer. "Agent" John (John Doman) takes care of all aspects of Joe's work. One day, a state senator found Joe and hoped that he could save his daughter Nina (Ekaterina Samsonov). At first, Joe only regarded it as an ordinary task, but as time went on, Joe gradually found the trick in it and began to doubt the real motives of the state senator.
