When Greg (Ben Stiller) was about to propose to his long-time girlfriend Pamela (Teri Polo), he unexpectedly learned that the success of the proposal depended not only on the beauty but also on the father-in-law. Pamela's sister was going to have a wedding next week, and Greg would go home with Pamela to attend the wedding. The young man thought that this was a great opportunity to please his future father-in-law and get him over with. Greg's name can easily be understood as "homosexual" in American English. With such a strange name, Greg's visit to his future father-in-law was destined to not go as smoothly as he expected. Sure enough, when they arrived at Pamela's house, although Greg behaved politely, his future father-in-law (Robert DeNiro) looked increasingly unhappy when he kept interrupting and trying to be humorous but the effect was the opposite.
