In the American Major League Baseball (MLB), Billy (Brad Pitt) was hit hard by the Oakland Athletics, to which he belonged, losing to the wealthy New York Yankees. To make matters worse, three main players were poached for a lot of money, and the future season was bleak. At the management meeting, everyone was confused, and only he secretly made up his mind to transform the team. By chance, he met Peter (Jonah Hill), a master of economics from Yale University, and the two had the same philosophy on team operation. With intuition and experience, he seemed to have found the key to cracking the gold-dollar baseball. He hired Peter as his consultant to study how to build the team with the highest winning rate.
