Introduction

Hulu has officially booked the true crime anthology series "The Act", which was created by Nick Antosca (the creator of "Channel Zero") and Michelle Dean, and directed by Laure de Clermont-Tonnerre in the first season. Each season of the show will focus on a special case. The first season will be adapted from Michelle Dean's true story article "Dee Dee Wanted Her Daughter To Be Sick, Gypsy Wanted Her Mom To Be Murdered" published on Buzzfeed. It tells the story of 48-year-old single mother Dee Dee Blanchard telling people around her that her daughter Gypsy suffered from multiple serious illnesses (such as dementia caused by brain damage, leukemia, asthma, etc.), but in fact no one knew that Gypsy was an extremely healthy adult; later Dee Dee was stabbed to death, and her neighbors, relatives and police found that it was the abused Gypsy who persuaded her boyfriend to kill her mother. Patricia Arquette plays the mother DeeDee, who is a perfect mother in the eyes of outsiders. She has gone through hardships to take care of her "seriously ill" daughter Gypsy, including being homeless and experiencing Hurricane Katrina. Therefore, DeeDee is a role model in the Springfield community in Missouri. Joey King plays Gypsy, who is confined to a wheelchair and is trying to rebel against her mother. Chloë Sevigny plays Mel, who leads the women in the community. She has a hard life and sympathizes with DeeDee, but she can only be stunned when she finds out the truth. Anna Sophia Robb plays Mel's daughter Lacey, who is as popular in the community as her mother, but she is relatively idealistic in her ideas. Lacey is quickly attracted to DeeDee and Gypsy and wants to help them. Calum Worthy plays Nick, who Gypsy meets on a Christian dating website. Michelle Dean's article quickly became popular on Buzzfeed, and has received more than 4 million reads since its release, and was listed in the top ten online articles in 2016 by Longform.
