Introduction

In 1937, Rabe (Ulrich Tukur), a German businessman who had lived in Nanjing, China for many years, and his wife Dora were preparing to return home. He handed over his position in Siemens China Branch to his successor. However, at the farewell ball that day, the Japanese army began to bomb Nanjing City, burning and looting everywhere, causing the Nanjing Riot. Panic residents fled everywhere, and Rabe resolutely opened the door of the company to take in Chinese employees and other refugees. Foreign missionaries, doctors, and businessmen in Nanjing City discussed the establishment of a "Nanjing International Safety Zone" in Nanjing to ensure the safety of innocent people, and Rabe was elected as chairman. Rabe, who had decided to return home the next day, decided to stay and save innocent people. When he witnessed the inhumane atrocities imposed by the Japanese imperialist army on the people of Nanjing, Rabe became more active in fighting wits and courage with his companions and the Japanese army, trying to save more lives. More and more refugees poured into the safety zone, which was completely beyond their imagination. At the same time, the Japanese atrocities became more and more crazy. Rabe's humanitarian aid caused their dissatisfaction. The safety zone was repeatedly attacked by the Japanese army, and supply became increasingly difficult. Hundreds of thousands of innocent people were waiting for Rabe to rescue them. How could Rabe fulfill this humanitarian mission under tremendous pressure?
