The film is based on the inheritance of Shanxi Tianchengyuan Bank, which was rich enough to rival a country in the late Qing Dynasty and early Republic of China, and reproduces the rise and fall of the financial industry of "China's Wall Street" for a hundred years. The story runs through the whole film with the memories of an old man in his twilight years: Mr. Kang (played by Zhang Tielin), the head of Tianchengyuan, has four sons, but the eldest son is born deaf and dumb, the second son is reckless and aggressive and paralyzed in an accident, and the fourth son is crazy because his newlywed wife was robbed and died tragically in Tianjin, leaving only the third son (played by Aaron Kwok) to inherit the ancestral family business. But Kang San has a deep resentment towards his father because he took away his former lover (played by Hao Lei). Mr. Kang hopes that she can add a child to the Kang family and inherit the incense, but she swears to die. Mrs. Kang has expressed her feelings to Kang San many times, but the latter has always been courteous to her stepmother and dared not cross the line. Seeing that the shopkeeper Dai of the Beijing branch is very talented, Mr. Kang uses both kindness and force to win over the shopkeeper Qiu (played by Ding Zhicheng) and make him wholeheartedly assist the young master. However, Kang San has other plans in his mind... This film is adapted from Cheng Yi's novel "Silver Valley".
