In the sixth century BC, Confucius (played by Chow Yun-fat) was appreciated by Duke Ding of Lu (played by Yao Lu) and was promoted from the position of Supervisor to the position of Grand Minister of Justice, which enabled him to implement his own governing philosophy of ruling the country with courtesy. However, the dominance of the Three Huans in the court also made Confucius feel a lot of resistance. He had a grudge with Ji Huanzi (played by Chen Jianbin) because he prevented the family slaves of Ji Huanzi (played by Chen Jianbin) from being buried with him. He went to Qi State with Duke Ding of Lu to form an alliance, fought wits and courage with Duke Jing of Qi (played by Ma Jingwu) and the doctor Li Chu (played by Wang Huichun), safeguarded the interests of Lu, and recovered the three cities, so he became the prime minister of Dai. He proposed the policy of destroying the three capitals, which triggered a rebellion by flatterers. After suppressing the rebellion, Ji Huanzi falsely conveyed the imperial edict and deposed Confucius. From then on, Confucius led Yan Hui (played by Ren Quan), Zilu and other disciples to travel around the countries. In Wei State, Confucius was respected by Duke Ling of Wei and received a salary of 60,000 stones of millet. He met Duke Ling of Wei's wife Nan Zi (played by Zhou Xun), and displayed the demeanor of a gentleman with righteousness and dignity during the conversation... The theme song of this film, "You Lan Cao", was created by the singer Faye Wong after her comeback after many years of silence.
