Colonel Faulkner (Richard Burton) was hired by the famous banker Sir Edward (Stewart Granger) to rescue the African freedom fighter Lin Banni (Winston Ntshona). However, in private, Sir Edward and the dictator Cheyne had a secret deal to exchange Lin Banni for the copper mining rights of a certain African country. Colonel Faulkner, who was kept in the dark, summoned his former comrades and formed a highly combat-capable death squad named the Wild Goose Death Squad.
