This film is adapted from Kawabata Yasunari's famous novel "The Dancing Girl of Izu". Kawashima (Tomokazu Miura), who is about to attend a high school in Tokyo, travels to Izu during the summer vacation before school starts. On the sunny and rainy mountain road, he meets a group of kabuki artists who are touring and performing. He is attracted by one of the petite dancers who wears an ancient bun and carries a big drum. He decides to go on the road with them. On the way, he learns that the dancer is called Kaoru (Momoe Yamaguchi). Kawashima doesn't care about the humble status of kabuki artists and often invites them to play in the hotel where he lives. After spending time alone with Kaoru, he is shocked by her pure and flawless beauty and falls into a contradiction. On the one hand, he is distressed by his uncontrollable impulse, and on the other hand, he is worried that she may be insulted during the performance. Kaoru gradually develops true feelings in their relationship. But the two can only be passers-by in each other's lives.
