Tin Shui Wai is located in Yuen Long, New Territories, Hong Kong. It was originally a small village. In the late 1980s, it was developed into a new town with residential areas by the British Hong Kong government. However, today, most of its 300,000 residents are low-level workers (including many new immigrants and mainland brides). Due to the many tragic family incidents that shocked the Hong Kong media, Tin Shui Wai is regarded as a "tragic town", but most of its residents actually live a life that is no different from other Hong Kong people. This is the case with the mother and son, Gui (Paw Hee Ching) and Zhang Jiaan (Leung Chun Lung), who depend on each other for survival. Gui, who became a widow at a young age, started working at the age of 14 and supported her two younger brothers to finish college. Now they are rich people, and she is still a supermarket worker, but she does not feel that God treats her harshly and lives an optimistic life every day. Zhang Jiaan is a good boy. After the HKCEE, he did not find a summer job. He would stay at home to sleep or watch TV most of the time. He had very limited time to go out to meet friends and participate in activities. When the mother and son sat down to have dinner and chat, they talked about which newspaper to buy and other ordinary things. The old lady Liang Huan (Chen Liyun) who lives in the same building with them is a new resident. She lives a lonely life with a depressed mood and a petty mind. With her experience of selling fruits and vegetables in the city, she found a job in the supermarket where Gui worked. At first, she and Gui were just acquaintances, and her expression was quite indifferent, but slowly, Gui's generosity and selflessness melted the iceberg in her heart. After understanding her heart knot, Gui gave her more warmth, and the two gradually became as close as mother and daughter. Days passed, Zhang Jiaan also learned about the many aspects of life from his mother and a few ordinary things. The uncles did not psychologically alienate them from mother and son, and everyone had their own life to live. He was ready to go out and work if his HKCEE results were not ideal.
