Li Hong (played by Maggie Cheung) and her husband Nansheng (played by Tony Leung) were originally a couple living in Panyu, Guangdong. Later, with Li Hong's efforts, she finally successfully applied for a visa to the United States, while Nansheng stayed in China waiting for an opportunity. Li Hong changed after arriving in the United States and wrote a letter to her husband telling him that she wanted to go home. Nansheng kept comforting and encouraging her until Nansheng received the letter applying for divorce.
