Ah Q (played by Yan Shunkai), a wretched and ugly man, is a small figure in Wei Village who makes a living by doing odd jobs. His family is penniless and he is so poor that he doesn't even have a surname. Despite this, Ah Q always feels good about himself, either looking down on the fake foreign devils who pretend to be good, or trying to get close to the landlord Zhao Taiye. Of course, what he gets in return is often not respect, but contempt or even a beating. Fortunately, Ah Q has a set of self-comforting "spiritual victory methods", so he can finally get spiritual satisfaction after suffering physical losses. Since being beaten by Zhao Taiye and punished for molesting Wu Ma, Ah Q's life has become more and more difficult. In desperation, he had to go to the city to seek a way to make a living. Some things that happened by chance made Ah Q a powerful revolutionary in the eyes of the people of Wei Village.
