"Ah! Navy" is not a classic in the history of military films, and it did not even stir up much waves in its country of origin, but the theme it presents is obviously more meaningful than the film itself, that is, "people". When the passionate music of "Yuankou" sounded, when Ichiro Hirata stared at the younger marines who sang "Song of the Etajima Warrior", when we discovered that this "politician" who was always in a high spirit also had natural morals such as sympathy, friendship, and filial piety, but these morals were always consciously distorted and placed in a secondary position, the question that has troubled mankind for thousands of years was once again placed before us: "How should we live?" Or, to quote the French composer Ropartz's literary question: "Qui nous dira la raison de vivre (Who will tell us the reason for living)?"
