Introduction

In Hong Kong, the killer Xiao Zhuang accidentally injured the eyes of the female singer Jenny when he was killing someone. Six months later, he appeared again. Detective Li Ying chased him closely. He met Xiao Zhuang's employer Jiang Hai who wanted to kill him to silence him. A little girl was injured in the melee. Xiao Zhuang risked his life to send the girl to the hospital. Li Ying judged that Xiao Zhuang would definitely appear beside Jenny. In a series of battles of wits and courage that followed, the detective and the killer gradually discovered a fact: they were very similar, like two sides of a coin. John Woo's superb editing skills and the music of David Hu and Lo Kuan Ting complement each other, creating a complete world of Jianghu in 110 minutes, with black-clad Jianghu brothers, pistols flashing cold and dark light, principles that persist until death, and uncalculated friendship. John Woo used the candlelit church in the dark night as the temple where the killer appeared and the killing battlefield of the final decisive battle. The whole hall was filled with candlelight, the statue of the Virgin Mary watching, and the white doves flying in the hail of bullets. A Jianghu dispute was decorated like a sacred religious festival. So John Woo said, "The Killer" is a philosophical film that expresses the justice in my heart. "The Killer" is the most perfect work of John Woo's life, and he may never be able to surpass the achievement of this film in his life. In the Hong Kong Film Awards that year, "The Killer" won the Best Director and Best Editing (Fan Gongrong) awards. When it was first released, this movie was regarded as a perfect commercial violence film. In the following ten years, people's evaluation of it kept changing. In 1999, the American "Time" magazine listed it as one of the top ten Asian films of this century. Chow Yun-fat's cool shot in "The Killer": The target on the shore has started to give a speech, and Xiaozhuang on the yacht is also ready. With gray hair and a mustache on his lips, this is no longer his true face. When the drums on the shore sounded, Xiaozhuang also raised his rifle, just like an experienced hunter.
