The Duke of York (Colin Firth) suffers from a stutter and is unable to speak in public, which makes him embarrassed at large ceremonies. In order to help her husband, his virtuous wife Elizabeth (Helena Bonham Carter) visits famous doctors everywhere, but traditional methods never work. By chance, she came to the house of speech therapist Lionel Logue (Geoffrey Rush), who is said to have a different way. Although the Duke was not interested in Logue's strange methods, the first consultation ended unhappily. However, the Duke found that he could read Shakespeare fluently while listening to music. This made him begin to trust Logue, cooperate with the treatment, and slowly overcome psychological obstacles.
