This film is adapted from a real battle in the Vietnam War. In November 1965, the Vietnam War escalated to the stage where the US military directly participated in the war. The number of US troops stationed in Vietnam continued to rise. Lieutenant Colonel Moore (Mel Gibson) was ordered to train a group of recruits into real soldiers. At the same time, many military families poured into the army. The soldiers played the dual roles of husbands and soldiers. The warm atmosphere was mixed with a trace of uneasiness. In order to alleviate the monotonous military life, the army held a large party. The time to go to the expedition has come. Moore solemnly promised at the ceremony to "bring back every soldier." Moore and his troops were airdropped into the river valley near Cambodia, where the North Vietnamese army was heavily armed. The US military, which was outnumbered, fell into heavy siege and suffered heavy casualties. Finally, with the assistance of artillery and helicopters, the battle began to stalemate. The next day, the battle advanced to the hills but still could not break through the siege. Moore sought help from the Air Force. Due to the close distance between the two sides, the US military's gasoline bombs injured some ground troops. Photographer Joe (Barry Pepper) recorded the cruel scenes of the battle. On the third day, the U.S. military was preparing for a decisive close combat when air force support arrived and the Vietnamese army was completely wiped out.
