The thieves, who claim to be the "new best partners" (played by Li Zhi and Leslie Cheung), took the sword from the White Gloves and put the blame on the best partner in a high-profile newspaper. For a time, the Chinese Rambo (played by Li Yuanba) and White Gloves and others sent by the mainland believed that the best partner to withdraw from the arena was the sword snatcher, and launched a series of hunts for King Kong and Bald Man.
