Behind the scenes The film is a co-production between Canada and Australia, shot on the Australian island of Tasmania. The film's director Brian Trenchard Smith is from Canada. He directed many influential B-level horror films in the 1980s and 1990s. This is his second time to come to Australia to shoot a film after "Sahara", a remake of Humphrey Bogart's classic World War II film in 1995. "I am very proud to be able to shoot a film with a climatologist as the protagonist," "It was a great experience to work with passionate young people and old friends in Tasmania." The film premiered at the Canadian Film Festival in Sydney in August 2010.
