The story takes place in the early years of the Republic of China. The Pan family has been operating the Yongtailong Silk Factory for generations. They have a large business and a solid foundation in the local area. Although Pan Jiaxian (played by Mai Changqing) is the eldest son, he is unable to take on the family business because of his lack of ability and weak personality. Instead, his younger sister Pan Qiaoer (played by Kanghua) is as brave as a man, shouldering heavy responsibilities and taking care of everything in an orderly manner. Xian Biyun (played by Shao Meiqi) is a female worker under Pan Qiaoer, and she also has a dusty relationship with Pan Jiaxian.
