At the end of the Sui Dynasty, Wang Renze (played by Yu Chenghui), the nephew of Sui general Wang Shichong, killed Zhang Shentui, who had risen up to resist the tyranny, while supervising the construction of river defense works, but caused his son Xiaohuzi to jump into the river and escape from the tiger's mouth. After Xiaohuzi was rescued by Shaolin monks and taken into the temple, he resolutely shaved his head and became a monk to avenge his father, and his Dharma name was "Jueyuan" (played by Jet Li). Wang Renze's chief guard met the shepherdess Bai Wuxia (played by Ding Lan) and coveted her beauty. He forcibly took her back to the mansion and wanted to commit violence after drinking. He happened to be discovered by Jueyuan who came alone to seek revenge. In the process of saving Bai Wuxia's escape, Jueyuan was stabbed by Wang Renze because of his poor martial arts, which prompted him to practice more hard after returning to Shaolin Temple. Later, because Jueyuan rescued Li Shimin who was chased by Wang Renze, Shaolin Temple suffered a disaster, and Jueyuan's responsibilities were even heavier.
