Catherine Jamison (Laura Linney) is a high school teacher. She has an adolescent son Adam (Gabriel Basso), who is not very obedient, and a middle-aged husband Paul (Oliver Platt), who is extremely immature. She also has a brother Sean (John Benjamin Hickey), who has received higher education but has abandoned mainstream life and is willing to be a tramp. Cathy usually follows the rules and lives a peaceful life. Suddenly one day, she learned that she had cancer and was close to death. She had never indulged herself and never followed her heart, but her life was about to end. Cathy was unwilling to give up. She decided to relax in the last stage of her life and do what she really wanted to do. Some of these things seemed crazy, some seemed desperate, and some were full of warmth. They all represented the true self released by the protagonist when facing death. In the first season, it is mentioned that Marlene (Phyllis Somerville), who lives opposite Cathy's house, suffers from Alzheimer's disease. After an accident that almost injured Adam, she chose to commit suicide by shooting herself and left the house to Cathy, who gave it to Sean. In the second season, what kind of story will happen after the two siblings become neighbors? Cathy's college classmate Rebecca (Cynthia Nixon) re-enters Cathy's life after many years and unexpectedly has a child with Sean. The two are very different in terms of life philosophy and personality habits. What kind of conflict will they have? Cathy's student Andrea (Gabourey Sidibe) is a troubled girl. Cathy sincerely wants to help her, but Andrea doesn't appreciate it. What new contradictions will their teacher-student relationship have? And Cathy's attending doctor Todd (Reid Scott) has developed subtle feelings for Cathy after many contacts with her. The truth cannot be hidden. How will Cathy's husband Paul react when he learns the truth? In the second season, the screenwriter will answer them one by one. In addition to the few characters who survived the previous season, new players have joined the second season. The guest actors currently announced include: Alan Alda, Parker Posey, and Hugh Dancy. The producer of this series, Jenny Bicks, once said: "The theme of The Big C is not cancer, it tells the story of a woman with cancer." When major changes occur in life, how people examine themselves, learn to cope, and learn to cherish may be the main theme of this story. Let us look forward to the screenwriters continuing to work hard and still bringing us laughter and touching in the new season.
