The play is adapted from the exposure of the Russian spy network in 2010. The creator himself served as a CIA agent from 1990 to 1994. During the Cold War between the United States and the Soviet Union, shortly after Reagan was elected as the President of the United States, a pair of former Soviet KGB spies were instructed by their superiors to lurk in the suburbs of Washington, the capital of the United States, waiting for an opportunity to collect military and political intelligence. Disguised as an American family-husband Philip (Matthew Rhys), wife Elizabeth (Keri Russell), and a pair of children who do not know their own affairs, 13-year-old daughter Paige (Holly Taylor) and 10-year-old son Henry live together. FBI agent Stan (Noah Emmerich) disguised as a civilian moved next door to investigate them. At the same time, their relationship has become more and more intimate and sincere over time, but the escalation of the Cold War and the attention and surveillance maintained by the spy organization on them are also testing their feelings. More importantly, Phillip is increasingly adapting to the American values and way of thinking.
