Geophysicist Dr. Yusuke Tadokoro (Keishi Kobayashi) leads his team to deep-sea scientific research, but finds abnormal cracks and mudslides on the seabed. After a series of investigations, he concludes that the Japanese archipelago will sink in a year. However, Japanese government officials believe that Dr. Tadokoro's prediction is just a lie that is not worth believing. Only Prime Minister Yamamoto (Kouji Ishizaka) realizes the seriousness of the situation and appoints Tadokoro's ex-wife Saori Takamori (Mao Daichi) as the Minister of Crisis Management to lead Dr. Tadokoro and their team to try to save Japan. Soon, starting from Hokkaido, large-scale geological disasters occurred in the Japanese islands, and the whole of Japan fell into panic. The government is helpless in the face of disasters, and the only overseas emigration policy is completely unable to cope with the rapidly deteriorating situation. The reality of the complete sinking of the Japanese islands is about to take place. In the end, Dr. Tanaka and his scientific expedition team members finally found a way to save Japan, but the actual operation of this method was difficult... The film was adapted from the best-selling novel of the same name by the Japanese science fiction novelist Sakyo Komatsu. The film cost 2 billion yen and is the largest investment and the largest publicity disaster film in the Japanese film industry in recent years.
