Description:After the end of the War of Resistance Against Japan, anti-war sentiments were high among all classes, parties, and the general public. Therefore, under the mediation of democratic patriots such as Zhang Lan, the Communist Party represented by Mao Zedong (played by Tang Guoqiang) and the Kuomintang represented by Chiang Kai-shek (played by Zhang Guoli) kicked off the Chongqing negotiations. In order to show its sincerity, the Communist Party took the initiative to give up some of the liberated areas it occupied. However, the Kuomintang had no intention of establishing a democratic government. Instead, it drove away the democratic parties and gradually went on the road to destruction under the dictatorship of the military government. During this period, the Communists headed by Mao Zedong won the support of the people of China through the establishment of a broad patriotic united front, laying a solid foundation for the convening of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference. At the same time, the dying Kuomintang still tried to use despicable means such as conspiracy and assassination to prevent the establishment of a democratic government.
