Hinamizawa is a secluded village surrounded by mountains. The simple folk customs have made this ancient village retain the sacrificial customs of the ancestral era, called the Cotton Flow. One summer in Showa 58, the village welcomed a new resident: the young boy Keiichi Maehara (voiced by Soichiro Hoshi). Keiichi was a little uncomfortable with the new environment, but after getting to know the gentle Rena Ryuguya (voiced by Mai Nakahara), the lively Mion Sonozaki (voiced by Satsuki Yukino), the weak-looking but strong-hearted Satoko Hojo (voiced by Mika Kanai) and Rika Furute (voiced by Yurika Tamura), the new life soon began in full swing. As time goes by, the annual Cotton Flow Festival is about to begin. However, during this lively time, Keiichi heard some unknown past of Hinamizawa, as well as the horrific incidents called "God-buried" in which one person disappeared and one person died during the Cotton Flow Festival over the years. Are these rumors true or false? Is the simple and happy life in the past true or false? As an "outsider", Keiichi Maehara unexpectedly gets closer to the truth of a major event.
