The series is based on the fantasy/horror novel of the same name written by Matt Ruff in 2016. It is set in the 1950s during the implementation of Jim Crow laws. It tells the story of the black male protagonist Atticus Black, his friend Letitia, and his uncle George embarking on a road trip to find his missing father across the United States. They have to overcome the oppression brought by white supremacy and fight against evil forces.
