Josh (Max Pomeranc) is an ordinary American boy. One day, he played chess with his father Fred (Joe Mantegna) and miraculously defeated his experienced father. After that, Josh participated in the International Chess Open and showed amazing talent. His parents decided to train Josh into a talented chess player. One day, a man named Winnie (Laurence Fishburne) appeared beside Josh. Over time, a deep friendship was formed between the two. At the same time, his parents found a respected Go teacher Bruce (Ben Kingsley) to guide Josh.
