As the story progresses into Season 4, the relationship between Walter (Bryan Cranston) and Gus (Giancarlo Esposito) begins to grow strained. Gus not only steps up his surveillance of Walter, but also attempts to control Jesse (Aaron Paul), hoping that one day he can replace Walter. As Hank (Dean Norris) begins to develop a suspicion about Gus, Walter's identity is on the verge of being exposed. Walter discovers Gus's intention to kill him, and wants to use his savings to take his family away. Unexpectedly, Skyler (Anna Gunn) uses the money to protect himself. With his life in jeopardy, Walter is forced into a desperate situation, with only the option of getting rid of Gus first, at any cost.
