In the near future, the earth is covered with yellow sand. Basic crops such as wheat and okra have been extinct due to blight. Humans no longer look up at the stars and indulge their imagination and inspiration as before, but count down the few remaining days under the ravages of sandstorms every day. Cooper (Matthew McConaughey), a former NASA astronaut who works as a farmer at home, discovers strange gravity field phenomena in the study of his daughter Murphy (Mackenzie Foy) one after another, and then learns that former NASA members are still secretly carrying out a plan to save mankind in an unknown area. Many years ago, a mysterious wormhole appeared near Saturn, and NASA took the opportunity to send several astronauts to distant galaxies to find habitable planets.
