Introduction

This film is adapted from the autobiography of the same name published by former South African President Mandela in 1994. He is a barefoot country boy who walks through the mountains; he is a passionate young lawyer who shouts long live freedom; he is an armed revolutionary leader against the government; he is a political prisoner who has been imprisoned, exiled and forced to work for 27 years; he is the first black president elected in the first democratic election in South Africa's history, his name is Mandela. Mandela (Idris Elba) dedicated his life to fighting against apartheid policies. He changed from a revolutionary fighter to a peace fighter, turning a country with serious racial divisions into an equal and harmonious country, setting an example for the world, but he paid a heavy price. At the age of 43, Mandela was charged with attempting to overthrow the government and sentenced to life imprisonment. He and his wife Winnie (Naomie Harris) were separated from each other and never had the opportunity to accompany their children and grandchildren to grow up. Even though he was finally freed after 27 years in prison and became a president and hero admired by the people, he lost the woman he loved most in his life. Long-term separation and political persecution pushed the couple further and further apart. While Mandela promoted the concept of peace and tolerance, Winnie declared war out of hatred. Between the freedom of the people and the woman he loved, Mandela made a painful choice.
