Written by Craig Mazin and directed by Johan Renck, the five-episode HBO/Sky miniseries Chernobyl is about the famous man-made disaster. Set in Ukraine in 1986, the series will describe what happened to cause the accident and how the brave people at that time sacrificed themselves to save Europe from the disaster. Stellan Skarsgrd plays Boris Shcherbina, deputy chairman of the Soviet Council of Ministers and head of the Soviet Energy Bureau. He was assigned to lead the government committee hours after the accident, but the government did not realize that the reactor had exploded. As a senior official responding to this unprecedented man-made disaster, he found himself caught up in the problems of the political system and had to face the rising number of casualties in this nuclear disaster. Emily Watson plays Ulana Khomyuk, a Soviet nuclear physicist who is committed to investigating the truth of Chernobyl so that similar incidents will not happen again in the future. However, during the investigation, she clashed with those who wanted to bury the terrible secrets, and she had to risk losing her freedom and even her life for the truth. Jared Harris plays Valery Legasov, a Soviet scientist assigned by the Kremlin to investigate the accident.
