In 1926, in the cotton fields of Georgia, the young Cecil witnessed his father being shot by a farmer. From then on, racial discrimination cast a lifelong shadow in his heart. In the late 1950s, Cecil Gaines (Forest Whitaker), who was lingering in Washington, was unexpectedly appreciated by the head of the White House's internal affairs and was recommended to work in the center of national politics as a catering service. He kept in mind the teachings of his boss, observed his words and expressions, and dissolved himself into the air. In the years that followed, Cecil served Eisenhower (Robin Williams), Kennedy (James Marsden), Johnson (Lev Schreiber), Nixon (John Cusack), Reagan (Alan Rickman), etc., who each wrote an important president in American history. Surrounding the civil rights struggle of black people, he, the president, his family and his brothers and sisters have also experienced unforgettable moments... This film is based on the real life story of Eugene Allen, the White House chief butler.
