The story takes place during Kangxi's (Xia Yu) incognito visit to Prince An's Mansion, where Kangxi met Aobai's daughter Qing Ge'er (Hu Jing) and Mingzhu's son Nalan Xingde (Zhong Hanliang). Because they did not know Kangxi's true identity, Qing Ge'er and Nalan Xingde spoke rudely to him, which made Long Yan furious. Fortunately, Xiaozhuang (Wu Qianqian) arrived in time and the two were spared from punishment. After that, Nalan Xingde entered the palace and became Kangxi's companion.
