In the 1960s, in Mississippi, the black maid Abileen (Viola Davis) diligently took care of the mistress's daughter, who was only concerned with having sex with her bestie due to postpartum depression. Skeeter (Emma Stone), a graduate of the University of Mississippi, was in charge of the housewife's mailbox at the newspaper, and thus began to study the living conditions of the black maids. Among them, Hilly (Bryce Dallas Howard) was undoubtedly a negative example. She was arrogant and prejudiced against the black maid Minnie (Octavia Spencer), and insisted that black maids should not share the toilet with their masters. In the end, Minnie left angrily because she could not bear the humiliation, and retaliated by humiliating her under the pretext of apologizing. Skeeter began to interview Abileen and Minnie, hoping to understand the living conditions of black maids and accumulate materials for his new book. At the same time, the equal rights movement led by Martin Luther King is in full swing, and Mississippi, where Skeeter is located, is at the forefront of the struggle. Because of the bloody incident of black people being shot, racial segregation began, and a skin color war is inevitable...
