This film is adapted from the best-selling Spanish novel of the same name! In 1934, Diego Padilla won the Spanish chess championship and met a French journalist named Marianne Latour, and the two immediately fell in love. After the Spanish Civil War, Marianne Latour persuaded Diego to go to France to live with her daughter. Soon after arriving in France, Diego was accused of espionage by the Nazi Party and betrayed the prison monitored by the Invasion Guard.
