Anders Hill (Ben Mendelsohn) has lived in Habitland, an affluent Connecticut hamlet on a commuter rail line, for so long that he’s ready to reap the rewards of smart living. In his fifties, newly retired, and having paid for his adult son’s college education, Anders decides he’s had enough of the stable habit: so he leaves his wife (Edie Falco), buys a condo, and waits for the freedom of unfettered freedom to transform his life. Without the comfort of his former identity, Anders begins a bumpy and heartbreaking journey to reconcile his past with his present. Written and directed by Nicole Holofcener (No Need to Say, Friends With Money), the film is based on Ted Thompson’s 2014 novel of the same name. Habitland also stars Connie Britton, Elizabeth Marvell, Thomas Mann, and Bill Camp.
