Ed (John Lithgow) is a cautious man who likes to prepare for everything in life, big or small, in advance. This should be a good quality, but the bad thing is that Ed firmly believes that the United States will perish soon, so before that, he has to do his best to make perfect preparations, such as building a secret room at home for refuge. Ronnie (Blythe Danner) is a shopaholic who can't restrain her desire to buy. She always buys all kinds of things to fill her home. Fate makes Ed and Ronnie meet.
