The film tells the story of Paul, a boy played by Martel, who lives with his father in the countryside of New York, leading an isolated life. Because he suffers from a rare congenital hypertrichosis, long hair grows in many parts of his body, making it difficult for Paul to make friends. On his 13th birthday, he received a mysterious gift, so he ran away from home and wanted to find his mother, who he never knew.
