In Los Angeles, there is a "Thune City" where cartoon characters live. Cartoon star Roger Rabbit (voiced by Charles Fleischer) suspects that his wife Jessica (voiced by Kathleen Turner) is having an affair. He often loses focus during filming and is ridiculed by his partner, the doll Harman. Malone, the owner of a cartoon film company, hired private detective Eddie (voiced by Bob Hoskins) to find out the situation and took photos of Jessica's affair so that Roger would make up his mind to cut off the relationship and concentrate on filming the cartoon series. Eddie was eager to track down the murderer as soon as possible because his brother Teddy was murdered by the cartoon character of "Thune City" not long ago. He generously promised to do this.
