During the Vietnam War, Colonel Baroque and several of his brothers failed in a mission and became prisoners of the Vietcong. The U.S. government regarded these people as "missing American soldiers". In the prisoner-of-war camp, the Vietcong leader Colonel Yang continued to abuse the prisoners with brutal means, violating the Geneva Convention, and forced Baroque to sign a document admitting the crime of aggression against Vietnam. He was persecuted but refused to give in. Seeing his brothers being killed one by one, he decided to fight back and escaped from the prisoner-of-war camp after a narrow escape.
