Randy Robinson (Mickey Rourke), nicknamed "Sledgehammer", was a dazzling star in the American independent wrestling circle in the 1980s. He left behind countless classic matches, and his special move "Sledgehammer Smash" captured many fanatical wrestling fans. But with the rapid development of the industry and the decline of physical health, the era of "Sledgehammer" has long gone. Out of his love for wrestling, Randy never left the circle. He endured the hardship of life and the pain of pain, just to enjoy the great happiness brought by every show with the wrestling fans who have accompanied him for many years. He stubbornly pursued the last bit of glory, but his private life was getting worse and worse. Years of running around have alienated his relationship with his daughter Stephanie (Evan Rachel Wood), and the severe collisions and continuous prescription drugs have brought his heart to the brink of collapse. The lonely him can only get some short-term comfort from the stripper Cassidy (Marisa Tomei) after each tough game. Due to health reasons, Randy decided to quit the wrestling circle, get a stable job, and find the warmth of his family. But his manager planned a classic rematch for the 20th anniversary. For the wrestling he loved all his life, for his fanatical and persistent wrestling fans, and for what he had insisted on for a long time, Randy finally put on his armor again and returned to the ring... This film won the 2008 Venice Film Festival Golden Lion Award, the 2009 British Academy of Arts Film and Television Awards (BAFTA) Best Actor Award (Mickey Rourke), and the 2009 Golden Globe Awards for Best Original Song and Best Actor.
