The little girl Xiao Zhou, her sister Xiao Li, her mother Jin Wanping (played by Zhu Xuan), and her father Sun Hansheng (played by Zhang Xiaoquan), who was in the Air Force, lived in Qingquan Village. They lived a fairy-tale-like happy life. Uncle Ding (played by Fan Zhiwei), who often came to their house as a guest, had a big scar on his face and once scared his sister Xiao Zhou to tears. When my mother went to participate in a school activity, she met Ouyang Qianjun (played by Guan Ying), the mother of her classmate Liu Xiajun, and the two seemed to know each other. One day, my father and mother were suddenly taken away by the military police. My father was accused of being a spy, and my mother was accused of being left-leaning. My father's accordion was torn by the military police, and the house was sealed. Xiao Li and Xiao Zhou were helpless all of a sudden. Fortunately, Uncle Ding asked someone to take care of them. Xiao Li heard that his father was falsely accused by Uncle Ding because Uncle Ding wanted to marry his mother, and Xiao Zhou found that Uncle Ding was writing reports every day. Soon Liu Xiajun's family seemed to be implicated. Her father, General Liu (played by Zeng Jiang), was sent to a military court, her mother, Ouyang, committed suicide, and Liu Xiajun was sent to the Taipei Women's Association. Later, things turned out to be just as people said. Her mother was released and married Uncle Ding... This film was shortlisted for the main competition unit of the 66th Venice Film Festival in 2009.
