After the performance of Chekhov's masterpiece Uncle Vanya, which was specially recorded during the epidemic period and was newly re-staged in London's West End in 2020, returned to the Harold Pinter Theatre to record this five-star work. At a time when most theaters around the world are still in darkness, it brings people a dose of alert power and hope. It was hailed as "Uncle Vanya of our time" by the Evening Standard. This revival is led by Toby Jones, an Oliver Award winner who has starred in "Captain America" and "Witness for the Prosecution", and Richard Armitage, who became famous for "The Hobbit" and "North and South", and the recorded version also invited Roger Allam, a two-time Oliver Award winner, to join. The cast is very eye-catching. The script was newly adapted by Conor MacPherson, and the famous director Ian Rickson once again took charge of it, presenting a "perfect", "sharp" and "wonderful" revival, which was nominated for four Oliver Awards including Best Actor in a Play and Best Director. Chekhov's masterpiece Uncle Vanya tells the story of the disillusionment of spiritual beliefs, but from another perspective, it also contains the hope of reconstruction: Uncle Vanya and his niece Sonya live in a country estate all year round, with only the doctor Astrov visiting occasionally. Uncle Vanya works day after day on the estate, translates books and transcribes manuscripts for Sonya's father, his brother-in-law Professor Serebryakov. The admiration for the professor supports the value of Uncle Vanya's hard work for half a lifetime, but when the professor returns to the estate with his newlywed young wife, all order and fantasy are broken...
