Adam (John Cusack), who lives in Los Angeles, has just been dumped by his girlfriend. His single nephew Jacob (Clark Duke) is addicted to video games all day and night and stays in his basement. Adam's old friend Nick (Craig Robinson) is a "henpecked husband" and his work is not going well; another old friend Lou (Rob Corddry) is drunk and attempted suicide and was sent to the hospital. In order to enlighten Lou, Adam and Nick decided to invite Lou to revisit the Kodiak Valley Ski Resort, and Jacob also went with him. The four stayed in the hotel room of that year and drank and sang in the hot spring bath on the terrace. The next day, they woke up from a hangover and found that they had somehow returned to the 1980s. Jacob, who was worried about disappearing because of changing history, urged the three to recall the historical actions of that year and do it; but the three old friends who suddenly found a second chance in life each had their own ulterior motives. Can the damaged hot tub time machine be repaired? Will the future be chaotic because of changes in history?
