Without any warning, darkness suddenly falls at night. This ghostly darkness devours all the energy in the metropolis. With the loss of energy, humans also disappear out of thin air, leaving only clothes and belongings, announcing their existence. The days are shortened, the nights are lengthened, and the few survivors are still trying to fight against the death that is roaming around. In a tavern that still has light, TV host Luke (Hayden Christensen), lonely projectionist Paul (John Leguizamo), clinician Rosemary (Thandie Newton) who is looking for a baby, and 12-year-old black boy James (Jacob Latimore) gather here. Chicago seems to be their last hope, and they must do everything they can to escape the swallowing of eternal darkness...
