In 1348, the Black Death spread across Europe, with corpses and starving people all over the country. In this dark age when everyone is in danger, the young English missionary Osman (Eddie Redmayne) still tries to stick to his faith and position. At this time, the knight Orlick (Sean Bean) led his men to the church where Osman was. The reason was that the bishop heard that no one in a village near the Danwitz Forest was infected with the plague, so he sent Orlick to find out the situation. Because the village is close to Osman's hometown where he grew up, he took the initiative to serve as Orlick's guide. In fact, Orlick had other intentions for this trip.
