The new version of "Four Generations Under One Roof" is adapted from Lao She's original novel of the same name. It takes the life of four generations living under one roof of the Qi family in Xiaoyangquan Hutong (Mr. Qi is played by Zeng Jing, Qi Ruixuan is played by Huang Lei, Yunmei is played by Jiang Qinqin, and Qi Ruifeng is played by Chen Hao) as the main line, supplemented by the ups and downs, life and death of various people in the hutong, such as the Guan family (Guan Xiaohe is played by Zhao Baogang and Da Chibao is played by Yuan Qiu), Xiao Cui, Xiao Wen, Mr. Li Si and Sun Qi. It truly records the distorted world after the fall of Peking during the War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression, vividly depicts the tragic plight of the vast majority of civilians under the iron hoofs of the Japanese invaders, and truly reproduces the ideological change process of the people of Peking from denying reality to finally recognizing the dangerous situation. It portrays the mental journey of some people from "small family" to "big family" and their resistance struggle from passive to active, as well as the ugly faces and final fate of another part of people who ignored national hatred and family feuds and sold out their country for glory. At the same time, in order to reflect the times while being closer to the original work, the new version of "Four Generations Under One Roof" has strengthened the emphasis on national character and accelerated the narrative rhythm and scene visibility.
